A Case Study of ETL for Operational Risks
Valerio Grossi, Andrea Romei · 2010
This chapter presents an application of typical extract, transform and load (ETL) processes used to carry out the analysis of causes of failure by merging the data available from different and heterogeneous sources. It provides an overview of the current state of the art in ETL techniques and includes a brief description of Pentaho, an open source ETL suite adopted in the case study. The chapter describes the scenario of the application, its integration in the MUSING architecture, as well as a detailed description of the data sources available and the data merging flow. It presents several relevant issues of data merging and presents the main ETL tasks related to the data merging case study from a physical point of view. The chapter discusses an application of typical ETL processes to perform operational risk analysis by means of a case study in the context of a virtual network operator (VNO).
