Security information in the vehicle with smart cards and Java™ platforms
Patrice Peyret · 1998
This paper examines some of the architectural requirements in applying smart cards to automobiles. It describes how smart cards along with Java technology can allow several applications to reside simultaneously and securely inside the same card while allowing application providers with a variety of tools. Through the Java Card API, various security functions such as authentication, controlled decryption, user identification and secure data storage are available. These services can then be used in providing in-vehicle services such as toll payments and data transfer.
