Modular signal reconstruction
Gary A. Ray · 2002
It is pointed out that modular signal reconstruction (MSR) allows for very simple and compact VLSI implementations. The idea is to process the derivative (or successive difference) of the signal using modular arithmetic and reconstruct the answer by integrating. Typical modular signal processing circuits can be much smaller and faster than their fixed-point counterparts. In addition, modular processing is relatively immune to certain signal truncation problems experienced by fixed-point arithmetic. These benefits are analyzed and an example using a bandpass MSR filter is constructed to show the effects of relaxing certain assumptions.>
