Graphics for Statistical Analysis

This chapter describes methods of drawing more diverse graphs on the basis of the R program. Most of the R graphs in the chapter are not too complex but are of high practical value; they were selected from diverse R graphs. When a series of numbers are given as data, a stem-and-leaf display is a good tool for recognizing the distribution of the data. A typical graph for displaying the distribution of a series of numbers is a histogram. The command hist () , which is contained in R by default, draws a histogram. The use of a boxplot is another beneficial method of comparing the distribution of data. Confidence intervals of respective data points should be included in a graph on occasion. A matrix of scatter plots is available for viewing the relationships between plural variables. Controlled Vocabulary Terms boxplot; confidence interval; graphical model
