Detecting Feature Interactions in Requirement Specifications

The Feature Interaction problem was proposed by Pamela Zave in the early 1990s. It occurs when new features are added to an existing system, and unexpected interactions occur. While Dr. Zave was writing about telephone switching systems, the problem is more general. This thesis uses a combination of use cases and Event Driven Petri Nets to model features. These are organized into a database. As new features are added, the updated database population can detect various interactions.
