In the control schedule process, an individual determines the current schedule status of the project. Where variances exist, he/she needs to understand the nature of the variances and what caused them. This allows he/she to respond appropriately. This chapter is all about staying on schedule and influencing all the variables that could cause a schedule variance It lists common inputs, tools and techniques, and outputs (ITTOs) for controlling scope, schedule, and cost. For control schedule, he/she includes all the listed inputs plus the project schedule. Schedule variance analysis compares the baseline with the actual results. He/she can present the data from the variance analysis at a performance review. Some performance reviews are very structured affairs that include the sponsor, the customer, and key vendors. The chapter discusses the two main types of schedule compression are crashing and fast tracking.
