CALCULATIONS OF FLUID STEMMING BEHAVIOR FOR CRATERING EXPERIMENTS.

Livermore (USA). Lawrence Livermore Lab. California Univ., T Stubbs, Barbara K. Crowley · 1970

The feasibility of using a liquid for stemming the emplacement hole in a cratering experiment is briefly investi gated.A preliminary analysis is first discussed in which an analytic solution is found for a rigid cylindrical stemming plug. The effects of variations in density and friction of the plug are examined.A more In the first section we take a simpli fied look at the problem of stemming by considering the equations of motion of a rigid cylindrical stemming plug.A more realistic but conservative model is ana lyzed in the next section, by means of various numerical calculations and param eter studies.
