Management of the synchronization networks on a technology agnostic basis can drive operational costs down through the "economies of scale" that would occur in the application of similar operational methods to different technologies. The telecommunications management network (TMN) includes various operating systems (OS) responsible for various management functions required by the TMN. Synchronization network management may impose different requirements on the network management systems. All protection mechanisms aim to minimize the service disruption due to network failures by allowing information to travel over alternative pathways. Monitoring of service quality involves accessing, collecting and analyzing measurement information at end points and points within the network. Integration of different technologies may imply the need to manage the devices in a specific manner.
