A Comparison of the Fry, Spache, and Harris-Jacobson Readability Formulas for Primary Grades.

IN CALCULATING readability scores for primary gr de reading materials, the most widely used procedures seem to be the Fry graph, the Spache readability formula, and the Harris-Jacobson readability for mulas. Most other readability for mulas are not suitable for primary grade levels. This article compares the three procedures on a number of criteria and provides some new data on how well they work in gauging the difficulty of reading materials in tended for primary grades.
