Operating systems should support business change
Jeffrey C. Mogul · 2005
Existing enterprise information technology (IT) sys-tems often inhibit business flexibility, sometimes with dire consequences. In this position paper, I argue that operating system research should be measured, among other things, against our ability to improve the speed at which businesses can change. I describe some of the ways in which businesses need to change rapidly, spec-ulate about why existing IT infrastructures inhibit use-ful change, and suggest some relevant OS research prob-lems. 1
