Presentation of the Offer of Services: Nomao, Recommender Systems and Information Search

The mass of data exchanged today on the Internet forms an asset without precedent for everyone regarding access to information. Similarly, it is also an issue as it makes heavy filtering processes a necessity so that the data returned are effectively pertinent to the user. This chapter provides a brief overview of the various existing recommendation methods. Traditionally, recommender systems use the following two major techniques: collaborative filtering and descriptive profiling. A logical evolution of recommender systems is to take advantage of the possibilities offered by the Web 2.0, in particular its social aspect. It outlines an implementation for the search of local outlets. Nomao is a Web and mobile application that allows users to find local outlets, which correspond to their tastes. The next evolution in recommender systems will be based around the user–system interaction.
