A Knowledge-Based Structure for Process Control

Jonathan E. Whitlow, L. A. Deselak · 1989

A knowledge-based system is being developed to aid in the control of complex processes. This paper focuses on the structure of the system. A distributed architecture employing the concept of a blackboard, is used for implementation. A hierarchy is formed as the system is segregated into three distinct levels. The top level directs control of the system, the intermediate level contains individual knowledge domains and the low level is responsible for the control and interface to the process. The knowledge representation is also distributed to give the system the required flexibitity needed for complex problem solving.
