Analysis of Binding Equilibria in Terms of Partition Functions

This chapter focuses on the equivalence of the two expressions for partition function. Next, the author relates these to ligand binding and thermodynamic properties. Then, the author investigates some of the complications that arise when the binding equilibria are treated in terms of site-specific binding and each stoichiometric species MLi is explicitly treated as made up of a number of isomeric molecular species, depending on which particular sites are occupied by bound ligand. Finally, the author indicates how these results apply to descriptions of coupled equilibria of biological macromolecules.
