A Method for Selecting the Number of Weights in an Echo-Canceller
D.D. Feldman, L.J. Grifiths · 2005
Reference [I] describes a least-squares method of training echo-cancellers during the start-up mode using pseudorandom sequences in which the number of weights used is identical to the period of the sequence. This paper generalizes the problem to include equalizers of arbitrary length. As the number of weights are varied, the least-squares error between the outputs of the echo-canceller and the unknown channel provides a robust estimate of the residual energy in the channel's impulse response. This criterion allows a trade-off between the echo-canceller convergence time 2nd loss enhancement and leads to a specification of both the appropriate number of weights and the LhlS step-size.
