High-speed video signal processor (VSP) LSis capable of efficient motion picture coding are needed for small TV conference systems. This 250MHz, 16b fixed-point BiCMOS superhigh- speed VSP (S-VSP) combines all necessary functional blocks in a single chip to perform efficient motion picture coding. (Figure 1) Three S-VSPs are sufficient to construct the coding system for a TV conference system which either sends or receives 30 352(H)x480(V)-pixel NTSC-format color picture frames per second. Two of the three S-VSP ULSis process the 352x480-pixel luminant signal, and the third processes the two 176x240-pixel chrominant signals.
