Formation Rate of Bound Objects in the Hierarchical Clustering Model

Shin Sasaki · Publications of the Astronomical Society of Japan · 1994

Abstract When one studies the structure of the universe, the formation rate of bound objects is an important factor, as well as the mass function. In the hierarchical clustering model, the Press-Schechter formalism derives the latter, but does not derive the former, which is different from the time derivative of the mass function. In this letter, we suppose that the efficiency of the destruction rate has no characteristic mass scale. Under this assumption, we obtain the formation rate of bound objects analytically, based on the Press-Schechter formalism, using the same procedure adopted by Blain and Longair (1993, MN 264, 509), although they evaluated it numerically. We also obtain the formation redshift distribution of bound objects.
