Devising a flexible event model on top of a common data : knowledge storage manager

Leung-Chi Chan, Qing Li · 1996

ADOME (ADvanced Object Modeling Environment) is a common data/knowledge storage manager that we have developed for storing, manipulating, and retrieving data objects, rules and procedures. Characterized by a versatile bridging mechanism which facilitates direct integration of a commercial OODBMS with a production rule base system, ADOME provides a native basis for accommodating those systems/applications that utilize Condition-Action (or alternatively, IF-THEN) rule paradigm. With its comprehensive integrated data and knowledge management facilities, ADOME can be naturally extended to support a wider range of applications and systems. This paper describes an approach we are taking for devising (re)active capability upon ADOME, by presenting in detail an event model that has been designed and introduced into it, thereby accommodating "event-driven" applications and systems (i.e., those employ Event-Condition -Action rules). Notable features of this event model include a layered structur...
