Outage Performance of Multiuser Communication Systems
M.K. Simon, Mohamed‐Slim Alouini · 2004
In this chapter, we present first a generic closed-form expression for the evaluation of the outage probability in interference-limited systems when the interferers are assumed to be subject to independent, identically distributed (i.i.d) fading. We then study multiuser systems that are not necessarily interference-limited and for which outage occurs when either the carrier-to-interference ratio (CIR) or the carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR) is less than its respective predetermined threshold value. Next, we quantify the reduction in the outage probability obtained when using low-complexity diversity combining schemes. We finally look into the combined effect of fading and cochannel interference on the outage rate and the average outage duration (AOD) of multiuser communication systems. It should be noted that the scope of our analysis in this chapter is limited to the effect of multipath fading and does not take into account the impact of lognormal shadowing.
