XLNET - a New Local Area Network with Distributed Architecture Suitable for Business Applications

A.E. Karbowiak, G. Anido · 1988

XLNET uses LAN architecture which integrates the switching and transmission of voice and a variety of data services. Integration occurs at all levels of architecture using packet switching that allows system capacity to be dynamically shared among users. Speech interpolation is used for voice, thus approximately doubling voice carrying capability. To improve data carrying efficiency variable time-slots are used. Decentralised architecture is adopted to enhance reliability and ruggedness of the system. Decentralised architecture and continuous in service surveillance ensure virtually fault-free operation.
