LIMS IMPROVES TRANSPORTATION LAB EFFICIENCY AND ACCURACY

Jerry Fireman, Alan Perkins · ACI Concrete International · 2004

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation's (NHDOT's) transportation materials laboratory is using a new laboratory information management system to log and track samples and to create reports. This article describes the selection and implementation process, as well as the benefits and features of the system. NHDOT's goal was to choose a system that offered long-term storage of test data, electronic report generation, graphical representation of material variation, sample tracking and information training. The system they chose, LABWORKS, consisted of a three-tier architecture offering database portability employing the same processing code regardless of the operating system. Early results from the system implementation are promising in terms of improved efficiency and accuracy.
