Syntactic Form Frequency: Assessing

Marc Brysbaert, Don C Mitchell · Encyclopedia of Cognitive Science · 2005

Abstract Syntactic form frequency research aims to find out how often words and sequences of words in a given context fulfil particular syntactic roles in a sentence. This is achieved by analyzing representative samples of text or speech materials. The research is motivated by the findings that artificial grammars perform better when they take syntactic form frequencies into account, and that humans also seem to be sensitive to this kind of information.
