The Birth of the Service Availability Forum

This chapter first examines the technology developments at around that time in the information and communications technology industry. Then, it discusses the changes from the business perspective as a result of these technological developments. The chapter also delves into the rationale behind the forming of the service availability (SA) Forum and the benefits that it intended to provide to the users of the standards. It elaborates on the scope and the approach taken by the SA Forum middleware, together with the justification, and explains how it enables a SA ecosystem for the telecommunications industry.
