Overview of Software Architectures

This chapter defines software architectures from several viewpoints. There are a number of definitions but all focus on some common elements: components, connectors, and configurations. It also distinguishes between software engineering and software architecting. A specific methodology, domain-specific software architecture (DSSA), is discussed. And, the benefits and disadvantages of using software architecture are addressed.
