Planning support systems and the new logic of computation
Batty, M · UCL Discovery (University College London) · 1995
This paper begins by sketching the key technological developments which are currently changing the face of computing and speculate on how these might be useful to planning. It will review hardware, media, communications, data, and standardized software, and then demonstrate the needs which both routine and nonroutine planning have for computation. It will make a distinction between two types of environment within which computers might be applied based on the routine and nonroutine functions referring to the constellation of computer techniques for routine functions as decision support systems (DXSSs), and those for nonroutine as planning support systems (PSSs). It will develop the ideas of PSSs and catalogue ways in which such systems might best be designed and applied. There is a comment R.E.Klosterman pp 18-20. -from Author
