Mathematical programming: State of the art 1994
John R. Birge, Katta G. Murty · Medical Entomology and Zoology · 1994
Mathematical programming has grown dramatically since its inception following World War II and the first symposium in 1949. Access to mathematical programming has spread from a hardful of people to virtually anyone with a personal computer. The 15th International Symposium on Mathematical Programming demonstrates this success through a wide range of research presentations, student-oriented sessions and tutorial surveys. This book presents sixteen of the tutorial lectures given at the meeting. The topics reflect the field`s diversity with contributions in varying areas of application, theoretical advances, and computational studies. These articles convey the vitality of mathematical programming. They provide an assessment of the remarkable progress of research in the subject, and indicate some of the problems that will be the focus of future research as we approach the beginning of the next century.
