Studies of the electron string mode of EBIS operation

The reflex mode of EBIS operation can provide a stable state of accumulating electrons at some conditions, which was first, observed in 1994 and later was named the electron string. A short review of studies of the electron string formation and decay and its features and of the string mode of EBIS operation, which were performed in JINR (Dubna), MSL (Stockholm) and in IAP (Frankfurt/M) since the EBIS Symposium ’94, when the first results were reported, is presented in this paper.
