Nifty examples in discrete mathematics
William Marion, Peter B. Henderson · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2008
Good examples are powerful tools for enhancing student understanding of important connections between some discrete mathematics topics and fundamental ideas in computer science. A number of nifty examples used as supplementary material or to present a topic in a novel way will be illustrated. The participants in groups will work on some of the examples and discuss what they have learned. Also, participants can suggest one or two examples of their own. All materials will be posted on a workshop webpage to share with the computer science and mathematics communities. The objectives of the tutorial are: to provide the participants with a number of examples which demonstrate the applicability of discrete math topics in computer science and to develop a collection of materials (examples) which could be placed in an online repository for use by the wider community.
