A framework for active learning

A FRAMEWORK FOR ACTIVE LEARNING by Sean Sharma Understanding of most algorithms in Computer Science is usually aided with iterative, graphical representations. Traditionally, these representations are conveyed to students via a textbook, and only one problem instance is illustrated. Newer methods of learning involve animations of algorithm execution. We propose a framework that can be used to demonstrate multiple problem types via a combination of animation and student interaction. The framework should support existing algorithm code with minimal modifications. A prototype of such a framework is developed with an additional construct known as Show Me Mode that enables students to view animations of the execution of an algorithm.
