Memory Management in the Microprocessor
Joseph McGhee · Handbook of Measuring System Design · 2005
Abstract Memory management, one of the most important aspects of computer organization, is described in this module. It is based upon the principles of overlay management as used in microprocessors running under MSDOS. For more complex systems, especially where large programs are involved, it is necessary to use more sophisticated memory management techniques, which apply a combination of hardware and software approaches. All relevant approaches are described in the module. This includes word block transfers from primary to secondary memory, software replacement algorithms, and segmented systems. All of the techniques are described with the aid of suitable diagrams.
