HDR in Film Photography
John J. McCann, Alessandro Rizzi · 2011
This chapter reviews the evolution of many approaches, including multiple exposures, and tone-scale functions in rendering HDR scenes. Multiple exposure techniques for rendering HDR scenes go back to the earliest days of negative-positive photography. Early photography had to deal with the great range of light in the world using home - made emulsions, controlled by craft, rather than scientifi c measurements. This chapter covers the history of HDR photography from 1830s to the 1980s with the birth of digital photography. The chapter covers the story of HDR aspects of silver-halide photography. There are many other stories that can be found in the literature on the development of color photography. It compresses the 16 decades of HDR imaging photography. The only tool available to fi lm photography was to control the tone scale curve. Controlled Vocabulary Terms nuclear track emulsions; photographic applications; photography
