Human Plausible Reasoning

Alan Collins, Mark H. Burstein, Michelle Baker · 1988

This research note describes the current state of implementation of a cognitive computer model of human plausible reasoning, based on the theory described by Collins and Michalski. The note's goal is to use simulation as a way to test and refine the theory. This required developing appropriate memory organization and search techniques to support this style of inference, finding ways to estimate similarity in specific contexts, and to investigate ways of combining the sometimes contradictory conclusions reached when inferences of different types are used to answer questions. Keywords: Reasoning, Similarity, Analogy, Artificial intelligence.
