Cloud Computing: Moving toward Acceptance

Stephanie Barbe Hammer · 2013

Cloud computing offers significant advantages for participants in the financial markets, which are not limited to shared economics. In this chapter, Ken Barnes of Options IT, a specialist provider of private financial cloud services, discusses the headwinds facing cloud computing and the prospects for its widespread adoption. Cloud adoption can and should be approached in a thoughtful workload-by-workload analysis process whereby each application supporting the business is modeled based on its security constraints, functional requirements, and the financial impact of maintaining as an enterprise deployment versus moving into a cloud computing delivery model of some form. The chapter concludes with a discussion on how Hurricane Sandy affected the cloud computing’s image. Controlled Vocabulary Terms cloud computing; Financial market
