Real-Time Speech Pitch Shifting on an FPGA

Habib Estephan, Scott Sawyer, Daniel Wanninger · 2006

Abstract – The objective of this project is to create a real-time speech pitch shifter implemented on a Xilinx Virtex-II Pro Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). FPGAs (programmable devices containing a vast assortment of logic fabric) are becoming increasingly popular for the implementation of digital signal processing (DSP) applications. The project places equal emphasis on proposing a viable DSP algorithm and implementing the technique as a digital system on FPGA hardware. Three pitch shifting algorithms (single-sideband modulation, time-domain processing, and frequency-domain processing) are presented, and the FPGA
