Dan Skiles · 2012
The evaluation and understanding of electronic signature (e-signature) technology involves some of the complex issues that a business owner must face in creating the infrastructure for doing business. This chapter describes a number of core features that should be included in any e-signature technology solution. Some of these features include: templates, system integration, and alerts. The chapter also explains several well-known e-signature technology solutions available for advisors to evaluate. There are several considerations that need to be evaluated prior to moving forward with utilizing e-signature technology. One area to consider is ones firm’s current adoption of paperless systems. The new account opening process is a good example of a complex workflow for using an e-signature technology solution. One of the interesting challenges for advisors in utilizing e-signature technology is understanding when it is best to use it and when it is better to rely on traditional methods.
