Product lines are a highly successful form of software reuse. Initially, achieving reuse was enough for gaining competitive advantage. In today's competition more is needed. Those companies that can optimize their product line approach to their business strategy can increase their competitiveness against the competition. The main tools for optimization are evaluation the current state of the product line, identifying possible problems, and choosing a correct way to improve the product line approach to match the business strategy.
