This report concludes the following. In essence, use of Objectivity for physics workloads does not introduce performance penalties compared to existing systems. Through its clustering directives, Objectivity allows for fine-grained control over physical data placement, so that optimisation strategies usable in a flat-file system can be adopted if necessary. RD45 identified Objectivity as the most suitable product for high energy physics needs, with Versant [48] as a commercial fall-back solution. Many other products explored did not have an architecture that would scale to meet high energy physics needs.
