. This paper describes ongoing work on the integration of a machine-translation software, Multra, into the multilingual document processing environment of Scania CV AB. Multra is a prototype of a modular, transfer-based MT-system with Swedish as its source language. It handles translation into English and German, based on a common analysis structure. In order to guarantee consistency in the original as well as in the translated versions of the documents, a controlled language, ScaniaSwedish, is defined. Also, a language checker for this language is developed. The core of the checker is the analysis component of Multra. The checker will provide two kinds of results, i.e. a controlled version of the text and the text as a sequence of grammatical structures. These structures can then be forwarded to transfer and further generation. In other words, checking the text means taking the first step in the translation process.
