Manage QoS in MDD using an aspect‐oriented model driven framework

Arnor Solberg · 2006

In model driven development (MDD), specifying system models as well as the transformations between models at various levels of abstraction can be a complex task. Embracing Quality of Service (QoS) in MDD is particularly difficult because: 1) existing tools and methods for specification of QoS as part of the system models are immature, 2) management of QoS specifications at different levels of abstraction and traceability of QoS is not clearly understood, and 3) the QoS elements to be transformed tend to be distributed across a model and tangled with other system features. This paper presents an approach for QoS-aware MDD. Modelling of QoS are discussed, a conceptual framework for understanding traces and appearances of QoS specifications at different abstraction levels are presented, and the aspect oriented model driven framework (AOMDF) are introduced. AOMDF facilitates separation of pervasive features and supports their transformation across different levels of abstraction.
