The HDR Story
John J. McCann, Alessandro Rizzi · 2011
The optical and neural processes found in human vision shape the goals of HDR imaging. The goal of HDR imaging is displaying calculated appearance, rather than accurate light reproduction. By using this strategy we can develop universal algorithms that process all images, LDR and HDR, by mimicking human vision. HDR images made with digital image processing have shown considerable improvements in the rendition of highlight and shadow areas. We see how HDR works every time we modify a photograph with Photoshop. We alter the output of the digits in computer memory to change the image on the display. Only with better and more efficient means of testing the algorithm’s locality influence, will we be able to advance our ability to render all LDR and HDR scenes with a constant algorithm.
