Optimization of Energy Consumption
Cécile Belleudy · 2014
This chapter examines sources of energy consumption in a real-time multicore system and energy-aware optimization techniques during task scheduling within an operating system (OS). It provides an overview of different modeling and optimization techniques for the energy consumption which have been developed in embedded systems and to analyze both their positive points and the points which require further development. The chapter presents power consumption models defined for quantifying the energy consumption and also time penalties due to the execution of primary services of the OS. To take these models into account during simulations, the simulation tool of scheduling policy STORM has been modified with a view to take these parameters into consideration and to produce a more realistic estimation of the power consumption of a real-time application. The chapter describes an image processing application.
