Current Approaches for Resource Optimization and Security

Kaiqi Xiong · 2014

This chapter discusses existing approaches for addressing service-level agreement (SLA) metrics including service availability, trustworthiness, performance and public-key cryptography-based group authentication. It also presents a literature review of the resource optimization problem subject to various quality-of-service (QoS) metrics. This chapter considers the percentage of time that a resource is “up” or “down” as a metric, which is the traditional way to define service availability. The trustworthiness of resource stations is an indicator of the QoS provided by these stations based on previous and current job completion experience. The chapter also considers the percentile of the response time as the performance metric. Web services are often contracted through SLAs, which typically specify a certain QoS in return for a certain price.
