Morphological Algorithms for Image Processing
Bhabatosh Chanda · IETE Technical Review · 2014
AbstractMathematical morphological operators are based on set theoretic approach and are suitable for extracting shape information. Some important operators are dilation, erosion, opening and closing. Image intensity profile may be viewed as a topographical surface, where pixel co-ordinate stands for the location and the intensity for the altitude. Thus, the surface relief and slope represent different types of object features. Hence, morphological tools are found very effective for image processing. In this paper we discuss various image processing algorithms using morphological tools and the results obtained by applying them on both grayscale as well as colour image.
