A Case Study—Data Bank
Mark Norris, Steve Pretty · 2001
In this section, we present a brief description of Data Bank and their networking requirements. The level of detail here is as might be found in a typical ‘management overview’. In reality, this would be a precursor to a more detailed statement of requirements often running to several hundred pages in length. In the main part of the chapter, we develop outline designs solutions for both current and anticipated future requirements. We then introduce potential new applications that Data Bank may wish to deploy. These show that the data network designer has considerable challenges going into the future, for example providing adequate security for Internet banking and Quality of Service for demanding multimedia applications such as Voice over IP.
