Using Excel Add-Ins for Extra Capabilities

This chapter describes tools that work with Excel to give it an even more analytical power and usability. The add-ins for Excel described in the chapter include ASAP Utilities, FlowBreeze, Systems2Win, PowerPivot, Simtools, and Formlist. ASAP Utilities fills the gaps in Excel's feature set with various features, and offers more than 300 new commands and functions. The FlowBreeze add-in displays a left pane over the worksheet. One is prompted to type captions in the pane and select the parts of the flowchart or VSM map. PowerPivot is a powerful PivotTable-like add-in that enables the user to join, query, and analyze massive external databases—something one cannot do with PivotTables. Formlist helps to audit the worksheets. All formulas from a selected range are output as text to a column on a worksheet. Formlist adds a macro and two lookup functions to Excel.
