Semantic‐Driven Autonomic Service Bus

This chapter proposes to enrich the functionalities offered by an enterprise service bus (ESB) following the Autonomic Computing approach proposed by IBM (2005) aiming at designing an autonomic service bus (ASB). The goal of an ASB is to support dynamically and autonomously the integration of applications by taking into accounts their functional and non-functional requirements. By using the Autonomic Computing framework, an ASB can itself monitor functions in order to detect abnormal situations such as quality of service (QoS) degradation or faults, and take the adequate decision in order to maintain the service as expected. The chapter gives an overview of what an ASB should be. More precisely, some use cases and the architectural principles of the ASB are presented in the chapter. Controlled Vocabulary Terms fault tolerant computing; quality of service; system buses
