Linking and chain‐linking

Jeff Ralph, Rob O'Neill, Joe Winton · 2015

In this chapter, the challenge of enabling aspects of index series to change over time while maintaining a continuous time series of index numbers is explored. Linking is the practical technique that addresses this challenge and is another important practical technique that is used widely. The link factor is introduced together with the formula needed to calculate it. The chapter explains two closely related techniques: chain-linking and rebasing.
