System design environments for mixed hardware/software embedded systems benefit from a uniform internal representation which facilitates the integration of various design and analysis tools. Allowing the mapping of different front-end languages to the internal representation makes most of the tools independent from specific design languages. We describe an internal representation, which is able to model heterogeneous embedded systems at different design phases. It allows the representation of design descriptions in different languages such as SDL, VHDL, Matlab, and C/C++. 1.
