Application of multi-valued logics to the study of human movement control and of movement disorders

Ladislav Kohout · International Symposium on Multiple-Valued Logic · 1976

This paper is concerned with applications of modal and multi-valued ligics to brain modelling of neuromuscular disabilities and to modelling of movement control. After a brief introduction to the problems of hierarchic movement control, some failures of binary logics in biological applications are examined. The need to introduce modal logics in neurological applications is argued. It is shown that movement control can be formalised as a problem of reachability, controllability and stability in an appropriate control space. It is shown that natural logics for this purpose are not the Boolean algebras but rather the modal logics. An example of movement disorder in Parkinson's disease is then analysed and importance of multi-valued logics for evaluation of experimental data concerning movement coordination is discussed.
