Prolog for Programmers

Feliks Kluźniak, Stanialaw Szpakowicz · CERN Document Server (European Organization for Nuclear Research) · 1985

This book is an introduction to PROLOG, its use and implementation, assumes the reader has some programming experience and relates the unconventional PROLOG constructs to the programming methods and techniques used in, say, PASCAL, thus helping to cross the psychological barrier between the two approaches. The book is practically oriented but avoids irritating the more sophisticated reader with the boring repetitions of obvious, elementary methods and procedures found in many introductory level texts. The version of PROLOG used is almost identical to the widely accepted Edinburgh PROLOG (the few differences are documented). The book includes: an introduction to PROLOG; programming techniques in PROLOG; the principles of implementing PROLOG systems; a description of a PROLOG interpreter for small computers (written in PASCAL and PROLOG) with complete listings; two case studies in PROLOG applications (a planning program by D.H.D. Warren and an implementation of Sequel-like database query language) with complete listings; a short overview of some important PROLOG dialects.
