Basic Concepts in Wireless Communications

Vincent K. N. Lau, Yu‐Kwong Ricky Kwok · 2006

Chapter 1 reviews the fundamental concepts in wireless communications. This chapter also discusses the wireless fading channels in continuous time domain and established the equivalence between continuous time and discrete time models based on the concept of signal space and sufficient statistics. The wireless fading channel is modeled as a random process in the time domain, frequency domain and the position domain. Chapter 1 also details about characterizing the random fading channels from the spectral domain which involves the Doppler domain, the delay domain and the wave-number domain.
